Jalapeno Fridays

Jalapeno Friday

Jalapenos Mexican Grill is my favorite place to eat.  It's a great place to spend time with my family after a hard days work on the farm.(Not that I work hard but my PDaddy and Nana do) :) It is the best Mexican  restaurant I have ever been to.  We always get 18-A's (that's the item number on the menu).  18-A is a flattened piece of sizzling hot chicken, smothered with cheese.  They bring it out on a smoke-n hot skillet.  It's kind of frightening.  But so good.

After the smoke clears and before I cut into it(not really me cutting, Nana wont let me, it's too hot) I have to let the cheese bubble up and get crispy.  Then it's ON!

Friday night can't come fast enough for me.  I'm so glad I graduated form the 3 soft "baby" tacos to an 18-A.  Life is GOOD :)

The Best Books Ever..Madyson's Post: The Hunger Games

It all started at the Tuscaloosa Public Library.  I picked up the movie and I didn't think it was going to be as good as they said.  When I got home and watched it...BAM!  I was 100% wrong, I Loved it.So much, I literally watched it everyday until I had to return it.  After that I was hooked on the Hunger Games.
When my mom let me read her copies of the books, I almost fainted.  I could not stop reading them.  I read in the car, outside, on the bed, on the floor, everywhere!  It took me 2 to 3 weeks to read all 3 books.  On 8/25/13 I finished the last book and I am very sad.  There are no more Hunger Game books.  I can't wait until the next movie.

Home school..Our first year at home

Where to begin?  OK,  I am obsessive about education.  This coming from a horrible student in elementary, junior high, and what part of high school I attended.  I got the award for missing the most days EVER!   Not really, well I would have if they gave one and I happened to be there that day:)
My oldest, Ashley, is like her aunt Kathy.  They got all the brains (which means: they studied and went to school). My son, Jonathan, (aka: Bubba) is like his mama.  It was pure torture during elementary and junior high.  He liked high school? Yes, he drove places during high school. Gulf shores, Talladega National Forest, Mississippi, and other places. I found out about these trips after he got married.  It's not funny :) My mother never finished junior high school, but  she could answer 95% of the questions on Jepardy, was killer on a crossword puzzle, Trivial Pursuit..you better hope she was on your team.  Plus, she could spell anything!
I guess I'm saying all of this to ease my mind.  This isn't my first rodeo! I have raised two  wonderful, smart, creative, and very intelligent children. My son(after all his travels :) is one of the smartest men I know and can do anything.  Even after I said one million times"If you don't go to college, you will be digging a ditch or flipping burgers at Mickey D's" Well he's not flipping or digging.  (Unless he's grilling out or some type of DIY at his home) He loves the Lord and his family.  Has a good job, is a wonderful father and makes us proud parents.  Ashley is a stay at home mom.  She has a very popular blog. I don't have enough time to list all her talents, but my girl has it going on.  She too loves the Lord.  She is a great mom and wife, and we couldn't be prouder of her and her family.  I CAN DO THIS!!!
Even with my award for missing the most days of school as a kid I graduated from nursing school with a 4.0 GPA.   I believe we all learn at our own pace and not all "smarts" come out of a book or a classroom.  I just need to take a breath and remember what a blessing it is to share in her learning experience.  She loves to learn :) Heck, I love to learn.
We are starting our third week of home school today.  I am thankful for all my life experiences and those of the people I love and respect.  Madyson, like Ashley and Jonathan, is very smart and gifted.  I am so thankful to God that we are able to do this.  We are truly bless and give God all the glory. Every morning before we start school we pray.  We just ask the Lord to bless our day and thank Him for everything He does.

P.S. Madyson calls our home school Smith Farm Lake Academy. Our mascot is a goose  named Doose :)
This is Doose and his family.

OMG, I'm blogging :) YaY this is Madyson!

There's a Pig in the House

We have a pig named Olive, that's short for Olivia.  The only time she doesn't squeal is when she is asleep or eating.  She has a lot of energy, but is still lazy.  If you wake her up she will bite.  When you set on the couch she will try to climb up your leg.  It never works.  So she squeals!  She hates getting baths.  So she squeals!  Her favorite toys are stuffed animals and paper.

A funny thing about Olive, when you scratch her belly she will tip over and fall asleep.  She loves to have her belly scratched.. We scratch it a lot, so she wont squeal!

We got Olive at the Mobile Flea Market. You are probably wondering why a pig and not a dog.  I can't have a dog.  I'm allergic to their fur. They make me sneeze and I break out in hives and itch like crazy.  She is 6 weeks old. She eat rice cereal, bread, pears, and anything soaked in milk.  She is a very messy eater..Nana says she eats like a pig.

I hope you will like my blogs :0

Have a Great Saturday

The Coop...Organic..Free Range Chickens

                                                         THE COOP

Here on the "farm" we love our chickens. P Daddy has had chickens since we got married.  It is a passion he passed on to Madyson.  She will spend hours down at the coop.  She calls it "training" her chickens.  The chickens in turn trust her and enjoy the attention she gives them.  Happy birds make better eggs.

When we first got married, a neighbor, Mr. Hardy gave P Daddy some chickens and he's been hooked ever since.  A funny story: The first year we were married P Daddy worked down the road from a chicken factory. Needless to say sometimes chickens break out or fall off the chicken truck before they get the "ax".  Well, P Daddy would have a cardboard box in his truck for just theses occasions.  Many times he would see a rogue chicken on the side of the road, pull over, nab it and boom "free bird". We figured if they were brave enough to escape, they deserved a nice home.

We don't eat our chickens. We just feed them!  They are pets that sometimes give us eggs.  Don't get me wrong, we are MEAT eaters, and if need be they will be on the grill. But not today :)

We have 17 hens and one happy rooster.  Madyson's original hen was killed last year.. Henrietta was her first chicken. She was a petunia eating Rhode Island Red, God rest her soul.  Out here in the country there are critters that enjoy chicken better than humans.  We have coons, cats, bobcats, and red foxes that will clean out a coop in one night.

We feed them corn, veggie peels, and grains.  They love watermelon rinds.  We let them out to graze several times a week.  We don't use any hormones or additives to make them bigger or to lay more eggs.

If you have room chickens make wonderful pets.

That's the News from THE COOP
